How it works

When you choose a file, your browser reads it into memory, converts it and gives you the result. The file is never sent to a server.

What happens to your file

The page you loaded contains all the code needed to read and write PDFs. When you pick a file, your browser keeps it in memory, draws each page, converts it and builds a new PDF. When you close the tab, it is gone.

Check it yourself

Open your browser's developer tools (F12, or Cmd+Option+I on a Mac), go to the Network tab and convert a file. You will not see your file being sent anywhere.

Or load the page, turn off Wi-Fi and use the tool. It still works, because nothing needs the internet after the page has loaded.

The site also sends a Content-Security-Policy header that only allows the page to connect back to pdfhandoff.com and Cloudflare's privacy-friendly analytics. Even a bug could not send your file to another server.

What we do collect

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It does not use cookies and does not see your files. See the privacy policy for details.

Open source libraries

PDF Handoff is built on pdf.js by Mozilla (Apache-2.0) for reading and drawing PDFs, pdf-lib (MIT) for writing them, and qpdf (Apache-2.0), compiled to WebAssembly, for removing encryption.
